There are a number of companies which provide seismic acquisition services.  They operate the vessels that gather the geophysical data.  The titleholders of the permit areas are oil and gas exploration companies (both public and private) who have been awarded the titles based on their commitment to undertake a work program that will fully assess an area's petroleum potential.
